If you are a little handy you can check and correct some things on your car w/o going to dealer. Easy to use.. pays for itself , with one use..

The description says "compatible with ALL 96 and newer vehicles." It wil not read (gets "link error" message) my 2005 Jeep Liberty, my 2005 Dodge Ram, and my 2007 Dodge Durango. Customer support said "no fix is available" and wants me to pay to return it. Don't bother. Spend the money for something that specifies your architecture. Little more than a nice looking paperweight on my desk.

I bought the Actron PocketScan Plus because my van was having problems and had the check engine light stuck on. My order came in the mail about a week later. I plugged it into my vehicle, looked up the error codes, and found that I had three engine cylinders misfiring. I went ahead and put in some new spark plugs and was able to turn off the check engine light. While I was at it, I turned off the check engine light in my parents' van and used the code reader to find out that the light was on because the van had a small emissions leak. Bottom line: I didn't have to go to a mechanic to find out what was wrong with my van, so this little machine payed for itself the first time I used it. It is also easy to use (although you do have to keep the little book on hand to look up the error codes). My internet research also tells me that gas mileage goes down when the check engine light is on, so it is nice to be able to reset the vehicle computer without having to go to a professional garage. All around, I am glad that I invested in this product.
