This is a clever, professional battery tester February 21, 2008

I am a bit of a hard head when it comes to this kind of stuff. I really like to know whats happening when I am trying to diagnose something. This is really something most home mechanics don't need, and I could certainly get along without it. Most of the time its pretty obvious when your battery is dying and needs to be replaced. BUT, if you are like me and are a bit obsessive about knowing whats happening, and are interested in the issues of how long a battery lasts, and how much cranking power it has, etc, this is the unit for you. It is a bit complex to use, and some of the explanations in the instructions aren't completely clear, BUT, the tech support was wonderful, responded quickly and competently to my questions. It really does analyze the condition of your battery. I think the most important single thing it does is it actually measures the voltage drop when you start your car. That gives an excellent measure of how much reserve ability your battery has. A very cool unit. I really like it, but do I need it? No.
